Award-winning author Kaki Warner brings her trademark blend of humor, romance, and Western charm to the tale of a Texas Ranger troubled by past deeds and a strong-willed woman with a history of her own... Seeking vengeance for a tragic past, Tyree Benton joined the Rangers and became a different man--but his brutal actions still twist his conscience. Now he's found a woman he could love, but she deserves more than a man who makes a living getting shot at. If Ty were honorable, he'd leave her alone. But he can't seem to stay away.... Orphaned at fourteen, Charlotte Weyland has used her talent for numbers to build enough of a fortune to fund Ty's dream of owning a ranch...if he's not too stubborn to accept her help. But when Charlotte's past catches up to her, she finds herself on one side of the law with Ty on the other. To keep their dreams alive, they'll have to make compromises, but doing so might cost them everything they have...
I have read all of Kaki Waner's books and really liked them a lot. The Runaway Bride Series was especially good. Great character development and story lines. Some of these women showed up in a number of her books. I hated to see them come to an end. This book however was not up to Kaki's usual talent in my opinion. There was a good story line that could have been better. Some really good secondary characters but the hero was a total bust for me. He was around so seldom in the first part of the book I never felt connected to him. It was just a come and go for him with his job. Several of the other characters were far more interesting. While I would reread a number of her books I certainly wouldn't this one. There were two secondary characters with an obvious story to come and you were left hanging. As I understand it Ms Warner has been asked to write modern day stories of Texas so book 2 will not be coming any time soon. This one was written in 2016. By that time who will know the background of the couple in this book. A shame because it would have made a tremendous story.
