Stunning as a first book by Katherine Boo.

I read this book once, was stirred, embarassed, and awed by the lives of it's subjects. Gave away and had to purchase another copy. Lessons for any westerner who complains about their lives. An education on the value of life.Recommend unreservedly!

An entrancing immersion into life that most never offer a passing glance. Captivating characters worked their way into my heart and mind, lingering with me long after I had, reluctantly, finished the book...I immediately wanted to read it again. Kudos to Katherine Boo for illustriously bringing to light, and life, a much disregarded, and massive, segment of India's humanity. I look forward to more from her.

A guided tour into unimaginable lives and situations. While the story requires time to digest, the reader is propelled by the rawness of the characters. I'm honestly surprised at how affected I am by this story, and how much I enjoyed the book.
